The On Par Golf Academy gives Wish Kids and their siblings and / or friends the opportunity to learn how to play golf for FREE when you register through Children’s Wishes.
Started in 2017, the On Par Golf Academy brings the game of golf to our Wish Families in a supportive, encouraging environment where we teach sportsmanship, along with other life skills, while enjoying beautiful golf courses.
For those not familiar with golf, “par” is the word used to describe the number of strokes expected to finish a hole. In real life, “par” denotes the concept of “equal value.” The On Par Golf Academy offers a fun, relaxed atmosphere where everyone can focus on simply doing their best, regardless of skill level.
On Par programs run year-round with Children’s Wishes families having access to clinics, instructional leagues, Summer camps, golf simulators and private lessons at Coventry Pines (On Par South) or Button Hole (On Par North.) Discounted play with an adult is available at our parent course, Coventry Pines, based on upon availability.
On Par South – RI Children’s Golf Course, Coventry, RI
Group and individual lessons are taught by David McBride, a PGA Teaching Professional at the RI Children’s Golf Course at Coventry Pines Golf Course. Coach Dave (aka Coach DJ) leads instructions with support from other experienced golfers for one-on-one assistance.
Weekly Clinics (On Par South): Saturday 3-4pm (year round)
* First time participants please arrive 15 minutes early to get fitted for clubs.
Youth Instructional League (On Par South): Thursday mornings all Summer long starting on June 30th! Come once or every Thursday! All skill levels, ages 4-17. Four holes every Thursday from 9am – 11am. Learn the rules of the game, golf etiquette, core values and healthy habits. Mini Clinic before round starts. Club and bags are available at no extra charge. Adult mentors walk with each group. Fun games, prizes and pizza parties!
* If you don’t pre-register, you must sign up as “Children’s Wishes On Par Golf Academy” upon Thursday morning arrival to have fees waived and play for FREE!
2022 Summer Day Camps (On Par South): Select Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursdays in July and August. Sign up morning camp (9am – 12pm), afternoon camp (1pm – 4pm) or full day camp (9am – 4pm). Learn the rules of the game, golf etiquette, course management and strategy while improving ball-striking skills and developing basic swing fundamentals and motor skills. Subject matter includes: driving, full swing, pitching, chipping, putting, core values, history, traditions and environment. Club and bags are available at no extra charge. Daily snack provided. Scramble tournament, awards presentation & pizza party on Thursdays.

Private Lessons (On Par South): Private lessons are available at RI Children’s Golf Course if your child is nervous about starting off in a group or wants to refine his / her skills one-on-one. On Par North – Button Hole, Providence, RI
Button Hole offers a variety of programs at all levels. Kids can enroll in the “BH” Kids Golf Program and, upon completion, earn the privilege to play the course for $1 dollar until the age of 18!
“BH” Kids Golf Program (On Par North): Programs including Wee Putter, Beginner, Transition, Intermediate and Skills are offered throughout the year. Visit Button Hole for list of available dates and times. There is a mandatory attendance for On Par North’s program so please thoughtfully plan ahead!
* Registration for On Par North is done through Button Hole’s website. Programs are still FREE through On Par with a coupon code from Children’s Wishes.
